If you fancy something very fresh and simple, these grilled fish tacos (gluten & dairy free) are super healthy, delicious and the kids always eat loads of them!
The recipe is for the gluten & dairy free version but you can of course substitute the gluten free wraps with wheat flour or corn wraps and the soya cream with yoghurt.
This is equally delicious served with plain rice instead of wraps.
*You can also spice your fish before grilling it using a mix of 1/2 tsp cumin, 3 cloves of garlic (crushed) and salt & pepper with enough olive oil to make a smooth paste if you have time but it’s still completely delicious if you don’t*
What you need:
For 7 wraps (though depending on whether they’ve been playing football / you haven’t had time for lunch or your just greedy pigs like us, then allow for 2-3 wraps for the hungry ones and one for a toddler.
For the lime chipotle sauce:
- Soya cream alternative (e.g. Alpro chilled alternative to cream 250ml)
- Tabasco Chipotle Sauce Smoked Red Japalenos, which is my cheat ingredient (or smoked paprika)
- Fresh coriander (approx. 3 tbsp finely chopped but as much or as little as you like)
- Zest of 1 lime + 2 tbsp fresh lime juice
*Mix all these ingredients together, adding chipotle sauce (great cheat ingredient) or smoked paprika to taste*

For the tacos:
- Skinless & boneless firm white fish fillets (e.g. tilapia, halibut, snapper, mahi-mahi, cod) – enough to feed your family – 6 tilapia fillets will fill approx. 7 wraps.
- Gluten free wraps (I use the Warburtons gluten free wraps – either white or seeded)
- 1 large avocado – mashed
- Wedges of Lime
- Bowlful of Apple & Fennel Slaw (click on the name for the recipe)
Or - 1 x very thinly sliced red onion + 2 1/2 cups finely shredded white cabbage + 2 1/2 cups finely shredded red cabbage
What you do:
- Wrap your wraps up in tin foil and put them in a very low oven (140 degrees) to warm through gently (5 minutes or so).
- Grill your fish on a preheated medium grill (or shallow fry if you prefer) until just cooked through (about 3-4 minutes each side).
- Lay a wrap on your plate, top with the grilled fish, slaw, lime chipotle sauce, mashed avocado and a squeeze of fresh lime juice.
- Wrap your gluten & dairy free grilled fish tacos and enjoy!

They really are so good and also with chicken! Thanks for a great linky!
Never tried a fish taco so will have to try this out. #foodpornthursday
Oh do – I know it’s a bit more unusual but it’s so gorgeous! Thank you for popping in x
OMG! You had me at the picture! My mouth is watering! I love fish and I love tacos and so do all my little monsters! Thank you so much for taking the time to share this deliciousness with #foodpornthursdays!
They really are totally amazing and we all eat like complete pigs when I make them! I hope your little monsters enjoy them 😉
I’m addicted to the fish tacos in Wahaca’s so I’m definitely going to give these a go. I’ll just have to convince the kids to eat guacamole which, so far, they’ve flatly refused to do. I think it’s a texture thing.
Ah yes well it was the same here until I put it in a tiny bowl with a spoon in, along with everything else in bowls and they helped themselves….to all of it!
Ooooo what an AMAZING recipe! I am so impressed with your flavour combination. I’m going to check out your apple slaw now too. It looks amazing on the taco. We would love to eat these. Thank you so much for linking up with #foodpornthursdays xx
These are a total find for me as I’m addicted to all these flavours and to have them all in one place is complete heaven! Thank you so much for hosting such a fab linky and having me on it xxx
Oh, delicious! Nice & summery. Loving #foodpornthursdays!
Thanks Vanessa and it’s so fresh tasting 🙂
This recipe looks so delicious – I’m always on the look out for more fish recipes! #TastyTuesdays
It really is and me too – I like the fun aspect of the wraps but it also works really well with rice instead. Thank you for your lovely comment x
This looks so good. I am going gluten-free so definitely one to add to the repertoire #tastytuesday
Ah thanks Rebecca and yes it’s delicious. We’re having it with chicken tonight instead of fish tonight. I should have called it ‘Anything You Want Tacos’ ;). Thank you so much for popping in x
btw – all our recipes are gluten, egg and dairy free… complicated diets in this family!
These look great – i love Mexican food and I always think that using fish in Tacos makes them so much lighter (and tastier)!
That’s so true and it’s also a great way to make fish more interesting for people who aren’t so keen on it ;). Thank you for your lovely comment x
WOW these look awesome! I’m always looking for new ways to incorporate seafood into our menus, despite the Hectic Family trying to mutiny at every turn. These look like something that they all might actually enjoy.
Make it a great day!
Our are a bit like that too!! I’m always on the look out for ways to jazz up fish for the same reason. It seems that ours will eat anything in a wrap! Thanks for popping in!
oh yummy – I have to try this! #tastytuesdays
It would work really well with chicken too. Thank you for popping in 🙂 x
I don’t know why, but I couldn’t eat fish in a wrap. I would have the exact same recipe with chicken though, Would it work?
Hi Mel, yes chicken would definitely work. I should have called this ‘Anything You Like Tacos’ ;). Thank you for popping in, Emily x

I just found some amazing 100% corn soft tacos and I’m obsessed with them! This looks like the next thing I’ll have to stuff them with 😉 I never normally use tabasco, but I do have some in my cupboard (for Bloody Mary emergencies!) so I’ll whip that out for sure
Hi and thank you for popping in! What make are the corn tacos?? Emily x
Ooo yes please!!! I might well do this one tonight since we have some frozen white fish! Sounds fab. Will pin to my food to try board!
Yes that’s a good point – frozen white fish would be perfect! Emily x
