My seven year old boy made this absolutely gorgeous box letter ‘N’ at an after school club today and we all fell in love with it. He proudly explained how he’d put it all together and pointed out it’s dazzly ‘front’…
His older sister decided she wanted to make a box letter as a birthday card substitute for her friend’s birthday in a couple of days. What a great idea!
So this is how you do it…
First cut out your chosen letter or shape from any old cardboard box.
Mark out lines roughly one inch apart on thinner card that you can potentially get to bend around corners and cut along them to form strips.
Using scissors to score the card to give a good clean ‘bend’ around corners. Then work your way around the edges, tape it to the thicker cardboard using invisible tape.
Then, following an excellent demonstration of how to make the curls using paper and a pencil….
…decide you don’t want to use curls at all, and instead cut another ‘E’ from the thinner card and tape that on to the top, forming a solid letter.
Then cut another ‘E’ out of paper, stick it to the (brown) cardboard and write your message on it.
Then start decorating the front of your box letter, sticking anything you like on it, get bored and stop before you’ve finished it…

Aah this is a fab idea! Might have to try this in the school holidays as my daughter loves anything crafty. Thanks for the suggestion! 🙂 #brillblogposts
Oh yes DO! I really got into it myself too. Lots of fun and so many design possibilities 🙂
What a fab’ idea. I struggle each time to get Archie to write in a card, but he’d definitely be up for doing this!! I’ll give it a try!
Getting them to do cards can be really hard work can’t it?? This was really fun to do together – once we’d finished arguing about the design 😉
