Welcome to Elfie’s Christmas Letters, a brand new Christmas tradition!
It all started in 2010, when I started writing tiny one sentence notes from ‘Elfie’ (one of Father Christmas’ elves) for the kids to find in their advent calendar when they woke up in the morning. Then over the years the notes got longer and longer and then I added drawings and finally by Christmas 2012 they formed one long story through December! The kids absolutely loved it, (which they would because your own kids do tend catch on to what you like don’t they?). Then I tried it out on other kids and it seemed they loved it too!
I’ve always written letters and notes for as long as I can remember. It was the main communication method in our busy family when I was growing up. We’d get back home and instantly look on the kitchen table for any notes. There was ALWAYS one: ‘so and so called for you’, ‘I’m upstairs cleaning the bath’, or ‘back later, gone to get milk’ or whatever it was. I love notes. I love letters. The excitement when you see an unopened envelope with your name on. What is it? Who is it from? I still remember the sheer joy of getting post when I was younger. It almost didn’t matter what was inside.
Then I decided that I wanted to see what could come of Elfie’s Christmas Letters. Someone in the playground said I should talk to Amee D’Souza, another mum in the playground, as she designs and builds websites. When I got chatting to her it turned out that she draws pretty well too! So, she has built this website AND is the artist for Elfie’s Christmas Letters. We did have one problem – Amee’s drawing is too good. We had to keep thinking rushed and wonky (elves are EXTREMELY busy) to get Elfie’s style and I think she’s got it just right.
We’d love to hear what you think, both good and bad. Please 20****@in*********************.uk“>email us here with any feedback or any thoughts…
