If you want your kids to buzz of into the garden (or anywhere in fact) and amuse themselves for ages AND get some exercise and practise their motor skills, then you need a set of these training markers. They’re about £12 ish for a new set of 50 and they’re BRILLIANT. You can probably get them really cheaply on eBay. The kids can do anything they like with them and if they’re stuck for ideas, this is what we did on Sunday with our training markers when I suddenly remembered we had a set of them wedged in the bottom of a trunk:
Pots & Tops (you need an equal number of kids, so 2 or more – good for playdates!)
- Put half of the training markers wide side down (tops) and half wide side up (pots).
- While you count to 20 (or they set a timer), half the kids have to turn as many of the pots into tops as they can, while the other kids turn the tops into pots.
- Count the number of pots and tops at the end and see which child / team has won.
Frisbee
- Use the training markers as a frisbee and try and get as many as you can into a bucket / bowl / hoop, or see who can get their training marker closest to a ball or a coat on the ground or something.
Stick-It
- One child has a broom handle and tries to catch it on the end of it while the other(s) try to throw training markers on to the end of the broom handle – i.e. everyone’s working to try and get them on the end of the broom handle!
Obstacle Course
- The kids use the training markers to work out an obstacle course and then have fun doing it.
Outside Twister
- This is self-explanatory really but the kids take it in turns to choose what colour training marker everyone has to put a foot or a hand on and then see how knotted up they all get 🙂
Football Skills
- Dribble the ball around a course marked out by training markers.
Paddling Pool Fun
- Just chuck them into the paddling pool – great for squishing about for the younger ones and great for trying to hook out with a broom handle for the older ones.
If you have any other ideas of things we could do with our training markers please leave a comment below – thank you!

This is an amazing idea! I would have loved these myself when I was younger. We used to have these in the school field when I was younger and we used to play so many games with them. Hours of fun. This is a really great list. You’ve come up with some great ideas for using them. 😀 xxx
p.s. thank you for linking up to #whatevertheweather and you’ve just reminded me I need to order my elf letters this year! 😀
Oh please list any more games ideas you have, the more the merrier! Oh yes do – or join the mailing list and I’ll let you know once I’ve started dispatching. It’s a new (brilliant though i say so myself) story this year and we’ll be changing all the photos to suit over the summer 🙂
So many fab ideas for training markers! I didn’t know they were so versatile, however I can see that most kids could use their imaginations and create so many fun games with them! Thanks for linking up with #Whatevertheweather linky. 🙂 x
Thank you Jenny and I have to say, I love things that the kids have to apply their imaginations to! They always come up with really whacky ideas!
So cool, must get these, know my boys would love them, thanks. Thanks for linking up to #brillianblogposts x
They are surprisingly versatile!! Perfect for the summer hols 😉
Every single time we go to the park and there are football training lessons, Big Kiddo is always trying to steal these rings that I didn´t know had a name before. I loved all these ideas, I think I will go and buy some for him! #brillianblogposts
Oh yes do and they hook on to buggies quite well if you have one on the go, so easy to transport around!
Great ideas and also good for the children to make up their own games and their own rules 🙂 Thanks for linking up #bigfatlinky
Their imaginations are so much better than mine. I’m always amazed at what they come up with!
I love this idea, especially using them in the paddle pool, and the obstacle course. Thanks for sharing I love finding out new ways to amuse my children xx
It’s just what the kids did with them naturally – I probably would have just stared at them and wondered what on earth they were for!
OMG I have no idea why I haven’t got these in my garden, but I am going to get them. Our boys would get so much use out of these what a great idea x
You really must – you won’t regret it!
