My Dad is rather famous for his letter writing skills. He has a list of people he likes to write to and he writes a letter to us all on a rotation basis. Even if he was to disguise his writing on the envelope, we’d still know it was from him. He has a rather quirky habit of putting a sticker on the envelope. Not normal stickers but stickers he’s carefully peeled off packets of groceries. Things like: ‘Smooth & Mellow Cheddar’, ‘Fat Free’ or ‘with added vitamins’….very strange but curiously appealing nonetheless. I’ve always liked it when people are slightly out of the ordinary…
I’ve been intending to write actual real life letters to Dad on a more regular basis, knowing how much he loves getting them himself, but I just can’t seem to remember to do it! As soon as I sit down my mind goes blank of all the things I could do (like write a letter) and I pop on to Facebook or check my emails instead. Does anyone else have this problem??
Well thanks to reading about the BringBackPaper Challenge, I actually remembered to write today! Although I would love to have sat down with some gorgeous stationery, my favourite pen and a cuppa, that just wasn’t going to happen at that moment. I just grabbed the closest pad of paper to me and an envelope and got to it. It took me just 10 minutes and I just know that Dad will love to get that in the post on Monday.
So – might I be all smug (because I can today) and remind everyone that if you have 5-10 minutes, please do seize the moment and write a quick letter to someone…or post off some artwork produced by your young beloveds. It’s such a lovely thing to receive a good old fashioned letter on real paper and everything. You might even get one back!
Even better. Try adding a sticker from your food shop on to the front of the envelope.
