We’re not vegan at all but we need to avoid dairy, soya and egg due to food intolerances so I’m always on the look out to try new things.
What I absolutely love about these ‘Anything You Want Oaty Bites’ is that it’s all ‘proper food’ and you can throw in whatever you like. I made these for the first time today and we all loved them. I’m not entirely convinced Oaty Bites are particularly photogenic but they taste very good and they’d also be great for breakfast on the go…
What You Need:
- Oats (gluten free ones if you need to be gluten free)
- Ripe bananas (mashed)
then anything you like (or nothing, it’s up to you).
- Grated apple / courgette / carrot
- Dessicated coconut
- Raisins
- Seeds
- Chopped nuts
- Chopped pine kernels (if you want protein but can’t eat nuts)
- Quinoa (again for protein if you wish)
- Honey or Maple Syrup (though they don’t need this)
- etc
What You Do:
- Preheat your oven to 180 degrees
Now it all depends on the size of your bananas as to how many oats you need so what I would say is mash your bananas (I used 2 smallish bananas and got 10 thingies out of it) and then just keep adding oats and mixing well until it balls up nicely and isn’t sloppy. Sorry that’s not very exact is it? It will all work out fine though so don’t worry.
So…
- Add enough oats to your bananas so it balls up in to one big ball.
- Add any extras and mix well.
- Place balls of the mix on to parchment paper on a baking tray and flatten them down a bit with a fork.
- Bake for 20 minutes until they’re a colour that appeals.
Store any leftover Oaty Bites in the fridge but they’re so good warm and I doubt there’d be any left anyway. All the components freeze well but I haven’t tried it yet. We didn’t have any left!

Soooo good straight from the oven! x
They’re so quick and do eat them as close to straight from the oven as you can 🙂
Ooh how yummy do these look!! And totally good for you too!! Fabulous!! Thanks for linking up with #SundayStars Steph xxx
Thanks Steph – I can’t seem to get a batch to last longer than the time it takes for them to cool down. They may taste awful cold but I’d have no idea 🙂
These sound great, and easy peasy (even for me!). I’ve made something like this before and they were pretty rubbish and a bit like soggy concrete, but I’m sure that was my fault, so I might try and make these. Thanks for sharing x. #bigfatlinky
Oh no! Well play about with the ratios and they’re best eaten hot from the oven. Well not too hot obvs 🙂 x
Looks, easy and yum- my favourite kind of recipe. Thanks for sharing
