I purposely said ‘paper folding’ and didn’t use the word origami in the title as I know some people are ‘allergic,’ immediately tense up and say ‘I can’t do it.’ The things is, these two paper folding books are the best in the whole wide world, according to me. They were both given as birthday presents to two of our kids by a very lovely friend.and they keep coming back off the shelf time and time again. They come with their own coloured and patterned paper and are totally suitable for girls and boys alike!
These really would be perfect for Christmas presents: it’s something the kids can enjoy by themselves, or something you can really enjoy doing together while sipping mulled wine.
Wild & Wonderful Origami
(Age 6 – adult)
I absolutely love this book – like the aeroplane book, it comes with a stack of full-coloured and patterned paper. It guides you through how to make 35 different animals, each labelled with their own skill level and easy to understand instructions!
They’re we’re currently working their our way through with the aim of making a zoo, which they’ll we’ll then play with!
The other origami book I totally love is…
Klutz Book Of Paper Airplanes
(Age 6 – adult)
I think it’s part of the rules of the universe to know how to make a paper aeroplane isn’t it? At least make it a ‘Headhunter’ or a ‘Space Cruiser’…
It comes with a stack of 40 coloured & patterned ‘flight ready’ paper, ready to fold the planes and has the enticing caption, ‘The 10 best paper aeroplanes you’ve ever folded and flown!’ I actually think it’s true. All the planes look totally different and they fly amazingly well!
Names such as ‘The Hammer,’ ‘The Professional,’ Nakamura Lock’ and ‘Flying Ninja’ just make our now seven year old brighten with anticipation. He can fold them by himself now but as a six year old he needed help. It’s fun to do together and only slightly alarming having to duck them as they’re flight tested around the kitchen…
Please do consider buying both of these books at once.

Love the penguins, amazing what you can do with paper!
Such a cool idea. I love these crafts. I’ve even done a few with tiny kids at school. Always goes down well.
Thanks for linking up to #fartglitter x
They’re great aren’t they and our youngest is happy just pressing on the creases and watching the magic unfold.
That is a really cool folding book! Although I think my kids would probably tear them all apart to call it origami their style! I’ll have to wait till they are a bit older. #fartglitter
I still do it with our youngest – I fold and he makes the creases. Good teamwork! Then he gets to enjoy the finished product and be amazed at how it came out of a flat piece of paper X
I love origami with kids. My toddler is too small for it, but I have bought books for my husband’s nephews and nieces and I know they enjoyed them. These look fantastic! Especially the animal one 🙂

I usually forget about origami but these are really workable and the results are fantastic! Thanks Joanna x
Thinking the planes will make a good stocking filler for my 22 and 19 yo! and my OH would probably join in too (which leaves me to read a Christmas book from MY stocking 🙂 )
Thanks for linking up with #TalkoftheTown x
Yes definitely! Do it, you won’t regret the peace and quiet you get, though you may need to duck occasionally…
Have bought one of the planes and there’s another one by Klutz for Star Wars. Keep them occupied Boxing Day … 🙂
ooh I’ll look at the Star Wars one – good tip, thank you!
These books look great! I think I might have to get some for my youngest. 🙂
Oh yes do – they really are brilliant x
This is brilliant. You’ve reminded me our eldest asked about doing some origami with me recently. She’d tried her hand at school. This definitely looks like something we could do together. Great recommendations thank you #brilliantblogposts
It’s really fun, particularly when you get a recognisable thing out of it that you can play with at the end! X
