Ooh – can you imagine? Starting a business from home with three kids aged 7, 6 and 3 and them not being able to get a whisper of it?! It doesn’t help that the beast of the printer is so noisy either. Though I do totally love Elfie’s printer – it’s perfect for the job and is apparently of the new wave of technology (or whatever it was they said). It really does rattle and hum.
It absolutely goes without saying that I really appreciate all your orders, support and lovely lovely comments BUT – I now find that I’m telling lies to the kids…
1. I’m just going to check the cat litter tray / do some laundry / find the cat (print off some letters).
2. Oh blast, I forgot to get some new toothpaste / toilet paper out (print out the envelopes).
3. Oh dear, back in a mo, I forgot to do something (bundle the envelopes).
4. Just nipping to the loo, won’t be long (put everything together).
5. Mum, what’s in that (mailing sack)? …erm – something for Aunt Katie.
6. Mum what’s in all those boxes? …some stuff for my work / recycling
7. Why aren’t we allowed in your office Mummy? ..because I have confidential patient information (true).
8. Why have you got all this stuff (wood shavings) stuck to your sleeve? …oh! Have I?! How extraordinary!
9. Muuuuum what are you DOING in there?! …everything ok darling? Just faffing about, won’t be a sec!
…and so on.
The kids are being great and seem to tolerate (not notice) me dashing about the house behind closed doors, dipping in and out of games and cooking various culinary triumphs (not). That’s the great thing about kids isn’t it – as long as you can think of something that grabs their attention, you can whizz off quickly and do something. The current love is playing skittles with a ball that’s far too light, which makes it nearly impossible. But they’re obsessed with it. Today anyway.
I absolutely must NOT be the one that ruins the magic for them!
We are still having a blast together. We’ve had some good solid days out and the kids are very excited about Halloween, which they’ve planned to a level of detail that NASA would be proud of.
