We all get far less ‘nice’ post now we have computers and we can all email and text so readily…I saw this photo from ‘Grow Food, Not Lawn’s’ and felt compelled to pos! Mind you, I’ve always loved getting letters…
You know that feeling you get when you hear the letterbox clatter and see an envelope lying beckoning you from the door mat? The shape of the envelope and it’s handwritten front tells you it probably isn’t a bill. The anticipation of what’s inside… It could be anything: a birthday card, a letter, a postcard, a newspaper clipping, a photo… but whatever it is, it means someone has thought about you and wanted to send you something they think you’ll enjoy. I quite like that feeling and our kids certainly seem to too.
My dad still writes letters to me and I love getting them. He’s a bit quirky and has a funny habit of putting stickers on the envelope. Not any old sticker. Ones like this….
Now we’re all old and grown up, the feeling of excitement has faded and we no longer feel the need to get into that envelope faster than the speed of light. As a child I could hardly wait to rip open the envelope and see who it was from. More often than not, I wanted to grab a pen and paper and write back. Our kids are the same: I love seeing how excited their faces are when they get letters but as it happens so rarely (except during December of course!) it makes them even more exciting. They always always still race to the door when they hear the postman.
Go on, make a child you know smile and pop something in the post for them 🙂 It really doesn’t have to be much, even a quickly scribbled note. They’ll love it. 🙂
