I didn’t name these! The name does conjure up the most unpleasant images BUT Neptune’s Navels really are truly delicious and perfect for family gatherings or posh dinner parties because Neptune’s Navels can be prepared in advance and are naturally gluten & dairy free! They taste a bit boozy too, which is odd as no booze goes near them at all, though I’m sure you could throw some in if you wanted to be particularly posh. A lovely friend and fabulous cook introduced me to Neptune’s Navels and they’re perfect for those with food intolerances and so quick and easy.
What You Need:
Serves 6
- 3 ripe Nectarines or Peaches for 2 halves per person
- Runny honey
- Ground All spice
- Pecans (optional)
What You Do:
- Halve the fruit and lay it out in a roasting pan. I still put them on parchment paper to make the washing up easier <lazy>.
- In a bowl add 3 tbsp runny honey + 1 tsp all spice and mix well.
Add more of either to make the mix more to your liking…the more mix you use, the more juicy sauce you’ll get but the more your teeth will rot 😀 - Smash the pecan nuts up with a rolling pin, though I definitely recommend putting them in a bag unless you want to decorate your kitchen with them, and add those to the mix too.
- Spoon the mix into each of the wells in the halved fruit.
- Bake for 20 minutes at 180 degrees.
My sister thinks this recipe would also work well with pear halves and smashed hazelnuts…what do you think?

Thank you Nicola and yes do. Do you have to avoid anything in particular? Either there are more intolerances around or we’re realising that our symptoms are caused by certain foods and trying to do something about it. Thank you for popping in x

International Elf Service says
They really are delicious aren’t they?? I’m still struggling with the name 😉
Nicola Young says
The name alone had me intrigued and what a great name that is. Definitely a Christmassy sort of dish and I’m sure you could experiment with different fruits. Plums would be good.
International Elf Service says
Yes that’s very true!! Thank you, that’s a great idea.
Nic says
Great idea to use summer fruit 🙂
International Elf Service says
They’re never around long enough for my liking! I’ve just discovered they freeze very well too, which is excellent news.
Vanessa says
I think these would be great on a BBQ as long as they’re well wrapped in foil – or in takeaway foil trays! Mmmmmm….terrible name, though 🙂
International Elf Service says
I know it’s so dreadful isn’t it?? Ah there you go Lindsey 🙂 2 votes for yes to BBQ’ing!
Lindsey says
I’m wondering if they would bbq? But I’m always wondering if something will bbq. Might be a bit messy. Also, I’m not sure M would let fruit anywhere his equipment.
International Elf Service says
Could you wrap them up in foil and then BBQ them or will the whole lot catch fire??
Mrs Puddleducky Jess says
These look delicious! So simple too x
International Elf Service says
They really are! The kids loved them too..must have been all that honey!
Mother Mands says
Yeah, that name is wrong! 😀 I have a thing about belly buttons *shudders* but this recipe looks ace and so easy, I think I would be naughty and smash a bit of booze in. We have some peaches soaking in vodka at the moment…may be interesting! 🙂
